Bud, Not Buddy Chapters 15-16 Response

1. I think that Bud thought that the room he slept in was an old dead girl's room because the one lady named Ms. Thomas said that the girl was gone. This frightened Bud because one of his rules to "Have a Funnier Life and Make a Better Liar Out of Yourself," is "gone=dead." He was really scared that he locked every door in that room.

2. I don't think that Herman E. Calloway was happy with Bud being at his house because he was always mistreating him. On pg. 179 Herman E. Calloway says, "There's something about you that I don't like." He says this to Bud and he simply means, he doesn't like Bud staying at his house.

3. On pg. 185 Ms. Thomas says, "I can't believe you, you'll take care of any stray dog wandering through this neighborhood, but when it comes to a child all of a sudden you have no sympathy." She says this to Herman E. Calloway because he doesn't care about Bud at all even though he could possibly be his dad.

4. On pg. 191 Eddie asks Bud, "....are you attached to the suitcase, or is it the things inside that are important?" Eddie asks Bud this because he wants to know if he actually carries around a cardboard old suitcase. He also wants to know what is inside that is important. After they talk about the suitcase for a while, Eddie gives Bud his old alto saxophone case to put his belongings into.

5. The band members give Bud the name, "Sleepy Labone," because Bud sleeps a lot and he is very thin. "La bone" in french means bone. This means that Bud is a "Sleeping Bone."
